Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2025-09-14

This Privacy Policy describes how Gitlandia, LLC ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares your information when you use our service.

  1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us, such as:

    • Profile information (name, bio, profile picture)
    • Repository content (files and folders/directories) and metadata
    • Communications with us (support tickets, moderation reports, etc)

Without collecting this information, we would not be able to provide a collaborative git-hosting service. We also use HTTP "cookies" to store minimal information about your browsing session, such as the fact that it's you sending requests to our servers and to prevent cross-site request forgery.

  2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

    • Provide, maintain, and improve our service
    • Process transactions and send related information
    • Send technical notices, updates, security alerts, and support messages
    • Respond to your comments, questions, and customer service requests
    • Monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities
    • Personalize and improve your experience

    We do not …

    • sell your information (about you, your organization, or your repositories) to advertisers, data brokers, people training AI models, random guys in trenchcoats, or anyone outside of Gitlandia.
    • use your data to train AI models.
    • even train AI models.

We use Gitlandia to build Gitlandia. We don't have special cases in our codebase to treat our content any differently from yours, so we're subject to all of the same privacy exposure as anyone else on the platform. So it's in our best interests to keep all data on our platform close to the chest.

  3. Information Sharing

We may share your information in the following situations:

    • Public repositories: Content in public repositories is visible to all registered users
    • With your consent: We may share your information with your explicit consent
    • For legal reasons: We may share information when explicitly required by law, such as if an appropriate warrant is supplied
  4. Data Security

We take all reasonable measures to protect your information from loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access. Our information-security measures are tested on a regular basis by both internal and contracted security experts.

  5. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. We may also retain information as required by law.

  6. Your Rights

    You have the right to:

    • Access and update your account information
    • Delete your account and associated data
    • Control the visibility of your repositories
    • Opt out of certain communications
  7. Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to collect and use personal information about you. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though this may affect the functionality of our service.

  8. Third-Party Services

Our service may contain links to other websites or integrate with third-party services. While we do our best to make sure we're only partnering with privacy-conscious services, they are not covered by our privacy policy because we don't control them.

  9. Children's Privacy

Our service is not intended for children under 13 years of age. While children younger than 13 could be developers, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
